Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Braves
Game 1: Marlins 0 Braves 11
Game 2: Marlins 4 Braves 7
Game 3: Marlins 4 Braves 6
Game 4: Marlins 5 Braves 4
Game 1: The braves absolutely throttled the Marlins in game by a score of 11-0. Spencer Strider was nasty and had a no-hitter in the 8th inning until Jean Segura ruined with a dinky hit to left field. The offense was powered by multi hit games from Matt Olson, Sean Murphy, Eddie Rosario, Ozzie Albies, and Sam Hilliard. Murphy, Rosario, Riley, and Hilliard all added home runs, with Hilliard hitting two. Hilliard as become a mainstay in the lineup and I fully expect him to move over to left field when Michael Harris comes back against the Mets. This was one of those games where the braves took out some of their anger from being swept at home by the Astros in the previous series.
Game 2: Charlie Morton pitched 7 great innings in Game 2 as the braves won a game that looks closer in the box score than the game was. Acuna led off the bottom of the first with a double, then stole third and scored on an Austin Riley base hit. Acuna has become one of the must watch players in this league with his speed and leads the league in stolen bases so far. The braves never relinquished the lead but the Marlins cut the lead to 2 in the 8th inning but the braves added two more in the bottom half and closed it out in the 9th. Ozzie Albies and Acuna had multi hit games with both of Ozzie’s hits via the long ball. Rosario added a home run as well.
Game 3: The braves bats started slow in Game 3 and were down 3-0 going into the bottom of the sixth. Sandy Alcantara was dealing through 5 innings, getting back to his normal self after a few bad starts. Acuna led off the bottom of the 6th with a home run and then added another run on a Vaughn Grissom single. Eddie Rosario was thrown out a home to end the inning as Ron Washington continues to be super aggressive sending runners home with 2 outs. Bryce Elder gave up 3 solo home runs but pitched a pretty strong 5.1 innings. The braves scored 4 more runs in the bottom of the eighth behind a Matt Olson home run, a triple by Rosario, and singles from Vaugh Grissom and Marcell Ozuna. The bullpen pitched 3.1 scoreless innings to steal a win from the Marlin.
Game 4: Just as the Braves stole game 3, the Marlins stole game 4 as AJ Minter blew the save. This was Minters second day in as many days pitching and didn’t have his best stuff. The Braves will be happy when Rasiel Iglesias comes back and his able to re-claim his former role as closer.
